No matter what type of vacation you’re looking for, you will find it on the Vineyard. Each town has a different feel, making it a charming and versatile destination.
OAK BLUFFS
MENEMSHA
VINEYARD HAVEN
EDGARTOWN
Most ferries will bring you to Oak Bluffs, which boasts the “party vibe”. Walk up and down Circuit Ave and find the perfect outdoor bar or restaurant on the water and take in the music and revved up atmosphere of the main traffic hub of the island.
If you’re looking for a more relaxing vibe, try Menemsha, a timeless beach town with famous sunsets. The Aquinnah Cliffs, a historical landmark, can be found on the westernmost point of the island. Take in the views of the water all around you and the cliffs themselves from up high.
If you like the peaceful atmosphere but are looking for a little more civilization, head to Vineyard Haven. A quint town center and old harbor set the tone for this classic island town. Enjoy small beaches along the harbor and a ferry to Woods Hole in Falmouth, adding convenience to this well-balanced town.
Edgartown can be found on the southeast part of the island. Taking a page from the entire island, this town seems to have a few different identities. Walk through the brick and weathered shingled shops and restaurants of the town center, which seemingly hasn’t changed in decades. Head south to South Beach and play in the waves while you watch the private planes of Katama Airfield come in and out right next door. Grab a meal or drink and watch the small ferries the harbor shuttle residents to Chappaquiddick, Edgartown’s own island. If you are staying here, there is a ferry that runs between here and Falmouth Harbor.
Martha's Vineyard Tips
You HAVE to see the gingerbread houses in Oak Bluffs! They are one of a kind. Keep in mind, people live/rent them out, so you may have people staring at you while you are staring at their house.
